Backpacks and Fannypacks...

Hi everyone!

So backpacks and fanny packs or bum bags, whatever you like to call them are BACK.
It's time to go back to school.

This trend can be great for both Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer. For the current season I am loving the structured smart leather rucksacks that are out there, and also the black studded slouchy backpacks.
I also absolutely cannot wait to make the most of metallic and pastel shade rucksacks when spring comes!

Here's a few of the ones I'm loving the look of...

Chanel

MEREDITH WENDELL
Alexander Wang

Grafea

Alexander Wang

Most of the bags above are pretty pricey, so if you want a cheap way to enjoy this trend definitely have a hunt around the charity and vintage shops for something that you won't see anyone else wearing.
There are also plenty of little rucksacks around that are great for nights out as an alternative to an across body or clutch bag that most of us use at the moment.
Don't be afraid to personalise your rucksack! You can buy studs on ebay that are easy to apply and will give a great punk look to a plain rucksack.

In terms of bum bags, I don't think I will be sporting this trend until I go to GLASTONBURY for my 21st birthday this summer.
However, I am a bit ahead of the game and have my eye on a few already.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and it will inspire you to embrace this trend.

Living for the weekend...

Hi everyone,

I went on a girls night out in Chelsea this weekend with a few friends who are on fashion courses, and also on their placement year in London, like me.
Georgie, with the blonde hair and black dress is currently working in the PR department of Alexander McQueen, and Shannon with the brunette hair and great blue jacket is working for ELLE Magazine.

Heres a sneaky peek at our outfits for the evening...

Daisy is wearing- Smoke print high-low skirt- Goldie at TopShop, black court shoes- Miss Selfridge, 90s style black polo neck crop top- ASOS.
Georgie is wearing- Black dress- Miss Selfridge

Cobalt nailvarninsh- Nails inc, Glitter topcoat- Urban Outfitters
Beyonce with Blue Ivy, wearing the nail polish

Daisy is wearing- chunky gold necklace- ASOS, blue ribbon in hair from a haberdashery.

Shannon wears- Leather trousers- Oasis, black ankle boots- TopShop, cobalt jacket- TopShop, navy camisole- TopShop, white chain necklace- TopShop

As Shannon works for ELLE she gets some great beauty freebies, like the blue nail varnish we are both wearing from Nails Inc (Beyonce's Blue Ivy polish). That polish along with my hair ribbon was a great way to brighten up my black and grey outfit.

Cobalt blue is so on trend this season, and such a fun colour to use. Nailvarnish and other accessories are a great way to add seasonal colour trends to your wardrobe without spending a fortune, especially in the poor month of January.

Get over those #JanuaryBlues by adding a splash of colour to your wardrobe.

The rest of the weekend was pretty chilled out for me. I went to YO! Sushi (seafood is my favourite thing in the world)....

...and to see Les Mis which was AMAZING!!! A must see! I was unsure about the fact that it was all singing but you get used to it so quickly. It is such an incredible story and a huge tear jerker, so be prepared with plenty of tissues if you go to see it.

Hope you guys all had a great weekend too.

Recent Shopping Trips...

 Hi everyone,

Today I thought I'd show you a few of the purchases I have made on some recent shopping trips.

Designer Lingerie Sample Sale

Last month I went to a designer lingerie sample sale in London with one of my friends Lexie who is also a fashion student and blogger (www.lexiesfloordrobe.com). She had worked as an intern for the lingerie brand 'Damaris', and heard about the sale through them.

Often sample sales are invite only, whether you work for the company or you are invited as a guest by someone who does. However, not all of them are so keep your eyes pealed for any that are advertised on social networks and such alike. They are GREAT!

We couldn't get there till the evening so were a bit worried that the best bits would have gone, but we both got some great treats at excellent prices. Definitely one of the perks of working in fashion.
Here's a sneeky peak at a few of the items I bought...

Sheer, studs, lace, silk, handmade

As everything was so cheap, I got a bit over excited and ended up buying more than anticipated and spending an absolute fortune. I guess it's not often that that kind of opportunity arises though (trying to justify this to myself).

I bought into three brands at the sale, neither of which I had heard of before but am now totally in love with. They were:

Nichole de Carle

Sexy Panties and Naughty Knickers

and Ell & Cee.

Lucky boyfriend but also lucky me...I have noticed that wearing beautiful lingerie underneath my clothes, even if no-one can see it, made me feel great and really confident. Definitely going to invest more in future...you should try it too.

Underwear is just as important as outerwear will be my motto of the month.

If you are interested in seeing some absolutely fabulous lingerie, you must check out the Victoria's Secret catwalk shows, they are amazing every year...as are the models! Here are my favourite outfits from the 2012 show...

Thanks for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed this post.

Amsterdam

Hi everyone. This is my very first blog and post so please bare with me :).

I thought I would start by telling you all about a recent trip I have been on to AMSTERDAM, and the interesting things I saw when I was there. Obviously including my outfits, fashion inspiration and style tips.

I travelled to Amsterdam in December so it was absolutely FREEZING! Therefore some of the outfits I had planned to wear had to be adapted slightly so I could keep warm. I am a pretty organised girl, so whenever I am packing for a holiday I like to plan my outfits so I never get caught out with nothing to wear.

Outfits

Here's a sneaky peek at one of my daytime outfits...

I wore a high-low floral chiffon dress from Zara, which is great to be worn in the evening when dressed up with heels or in the day with casual layers as I did.
I teamed the cute dress with a thick ribbed wrap around scarf and a black cropped fisherman's jumper from TopShop

I threw on my 2012/13 winter essential which is my Blue Valley leather jacket with western style fringing, which was a great find on ASOS
It has the look of a vintage leather jacket but the fitted shape of a modern leather jacket, so is much more flattering.

On the bottom half I wore some black wooly tights from Primark (perfect for essentials), some cute glittery socks with a frill from TopShop and my black flatform chelsea boots from Urban Outfitters, which seem to go with everything in my wardrobe.

The only items of visible jewellery that I wore were a simple double triangular spike chain necklace which was also from Urban Outfitters, and a chunky silver ring which I found in a market in India.
I had my nails painted a deep purple shade with glitter drip tips, which fits in really well with the science/space trend.

I carried a black leather rucksack with silver studs (Urban Outfitters again). I am loving the rucksack trend, so comfortable and perfect for city breaks like this one.

Dressy option-

Black leather belt with silver buckle- Charity shop

Black leather ankle boots with cut out wedge heel and metal toe cap- Office

Here's one of the outfits I wore int he evening, consisting of a long floaty and a bright yellow tweed jacket from ZARA. This jacket was pretty pricey, but as soon as I saw it I had to have it!!
I love this acidic tone of yellow that is in at the moment.
Tweed is very on trend this winter so the fact that I could combine this divine yellow with tweed was ideal.

Bold hues are a great way to lift and brighten up your winter wardrobe, especially when the weather is so dull! Don't be afraid to use them!

Cross hoop earrings and spike ring- TopShop

Trend Inspiration

As a fashion student I have to keep up to date with fashion forecasts. Heres a few of the things that inspired my outfit choices...

WGSN

WGSN stated that a macro trend for spring/summer 2013 will be 'Idiomatic' which celebrates the uniqueness of regional cultures... it is influenced by the Natives and Arizona (suede/leather fringing and tassels- my leather jacket) and traditional fabrics and patterns (Tweed from western Europe- my yellow jacket).

Trade Fairs

  • S/S 13- Première Vision full report-  Energetic yarns: vibrant fancy tweeds alongside decorative yarns, Summer tweeds: focus on surface texture with loose and open structures and lightweight handles
  • S/S 13: Pitti Immagine Filati full report-  Micro surface neps, slubs and bouclettes are formed from lively yarn surfaces

Tweed with slubs to create a rough texture like my yellow jacket

    Designers on the catwalk

Valentino- Autumn/Winter 2012/13
Romantic and gothic sheer fabrics

Dolce & Gabanna - Autumn/Winter 2012/13
Winter Florals

Alberta Ferretti - Autumn/Winter 2012/13
Shiny Black Leather

Street Style

Metallic rucksack
Loose comfy knits over dresses
Gothic cross embellished knit
Acid yellow as a bold colour to brighten up a winter outfit.
Thick knits in creative patterns

Travel- Amsterdam

Before I travelled to Amsterdam I had read about a local cafe called Cafe Brecht. The reviews were great, so I had to pay the place a visit.
The cafe was a bit off the beaten track so there were no tourists in there which is my ideal situation, even though of course I was a tourist myself. The place is quite dark, but has cute little freestanding lamps throughout which give a really cosy feel, and a mix of vintage armchairs and sofas to curl up on with a glass gluhwein (mulled wine), or a pot of one of their herbal teas served with an adorable matching cup and saucer (I love things like that).

I think the two things I liked most about this cute little cafe were the fact that they had a great selection of board games to play whilst you chilled out with your friends and also the fact that every time I went in there there was a local playing the piano (they were not hired to do this, I think it was just a way for them to relax).
I managed to take a cheeky video of one of the pieces being played one afternoon...

I have absolutely fallen in love with Amsterdam and the way the people live. The canals, the antique shops, the galleries, the vintage clothing shops, the cute cafes that also serve booze, and how everyone cycles everywhere.
Here are a few of my favourite photographs from the trip.

Thanks for reading my blog. Sorry it was a bit of a long one, Amsterdam was pretty hectic. I hope you liked it.
